SWEET SATURDAYS: Awesome Bread made into Focaccia

Oh, sweet bread, you are so tasty, and addictive.

In Anna's awesome Rustic Artisanal No-knead Bread, which I've been making every weekend for the last month or so, she mentions that you can turn the dough into Focaccia, so I made an extra batch of dough this weekend and made it into two Focaccias, they turned out great.

Up For A Challenge or Two: Colour and Faces

You know me, I'm always up for a challenge, so when I heard about Louise's Colour Challenge 2012 and Ayala's 29 Faces Challenge, I got really excited, though I'm a bit time poor and was at first hesitate to take on more commitments. This morning, I thought what the heck, I'll give it a go. What do I have to loose? So I sat down and did this quick sketch just to test the waters, and guess what? I'm going to jump in the deep end and splash around with all the other participants. This is going to be fun!

I decided I would take the opportunity to play more with painting on the ipad for these challenges and do some quick portraits.  Painting on the ipad is a fast, non messy way to create and it's portable, so I can do it on the couch, while sitting at the table or while traveling. I can do a little bit here and there throughout the day too, it's very easy to put down.

I think it's great to to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things! As an artist I think it's fundamental to push the boundaries and experiment with different techniques, subject mater, colours, and ways of viewing things, as this results in a practice that develops. There is always room for improvement, not matter what your skill level is, and if you're not willing to learn new things or look at things from a different perspective than your work will be static and you will end up painting the same thing the same way and not get any better.

I'm sharing my ipad painting over on Sweet Saturdays and Artist in Blogland too, they are great place to visit on a Saturday to see sweet things and beautiful art.  See you at the there?

Cats!

Over on The Butterfly Effect everyone is sharing images of cats! I thought I'd join in and share one of the paintings I'm working on at the moment, as it has a cat in it. This is Valentine and Her Cat.

I've also been working on another painting recently but it is under wraps until the 15th. It will be revealed over on the Monthly Painters Challenge Facebook Page in three days time.

Art Nouveau!

I was extremely excited when I found out this weeks topic on Inspiration Avenue was Art Nouveau! What a decadent, beautifully aesthetic and romantic period. I love the pattern, design and colour of this art movement. When I think of Art Nouveau! I think of artists like Mucha, Klimt and Morris.  If you have seen my 'Famous Bird' series {some pictured below} you will know I have a great admiration for Klimt.

I also deeply admire Morris, I have a beautiful collection of some of his designs on papers, which I find very inspiring. If you remember last week, my entry for I.A.'s Masquerade Ball theme featured one of Morris's designs on Valentine's dress. Well this week I actually set out to hand paint the dress in oil! I'm very happy with how it turned out, though the rest of the image needs some work, here is how it is a the moment:

If you love Art Nouveau as much as me, be sure you pop over to Inspiration Avenue to see all the beautiful entries, the artists are a talented bunch and I can't wait to see what they all get up to!

Happy
