Studio Update: Putting on paint and pushing it around.

It's that time again, Friday! which means it's time to recap my week and give you a studio update!


Do you remember 'Valentine and her cat'? They went to the ball last week in a little collage number.  They both got undressed {the collage was not glued on} ready for some paint. Being a painter through and through, I decided that I wanted to replicate {in paint} the William Morris dress and also the crown, I'm always up for a challenge! But before I could even attempt to paint a collage with paint, I needed some nice new fine liner detailing brushes because all the little ones I owned had a stray hair here and there and were driving me nuts.


This is how it has come up so far, I'm very happy with the dress, I see the potential in the crown {it will need a layer or two more} and I'm a bit hesitant with the pink/magenta of the wall. Who knows, that may be gone next week or it may grow on me.


Do you remember the 'He Loves me' painting from a few weeks back? Well I decided it looked more like he loves me not, so I've done a total rework! Still a lot to go on it, especially on the hands and arms.This one I was pulling my hair out over, but  I have faith it's going to be a fantastic painting when it's finished, a very different painting, but one I'd be happy to my name on!

    Valentines dress is beyond perfect and I kind of like the hot pink... I bought a shirt in almost that exact shade... love looking at palettes... why is that? xx

    Valentine's eyes just draw me in even with all the color (which I am usually drawn to first). Wow!

    I love the magenta behind Valentine and her cat's crown. Her dress is gorgeous.

    Love the he loves me not painting just as it is, and hate to say it but I like the first painting as it was originally, sort of soft and dreamy, but maybe that just me, love your style of showing the people as if they are just barely stopped in motion.

    A cat in a crown eh? If it was one of my two, they'd have that crown off before you could say catnip!

    WOW, I am so glad you added the crown and used the William Morris pattern for her dress- perfect touches both! Also, I personally like the magenta and especially where it shines through the negative spaces in her hair.....gorgeous!

    great work in your studio, i'll go visit your previous posts to see what Valentine looked like before. the sight of your new brushes reminded me i need to buy new ones too. i think there are more stray hairs in mine than those in place!

    Valentine and her cat looks great on the magenta background, but I have a feeling they would look great no matter what color you used. Your art is all so beautiful. And I love seeing your paint palette.
