Workdesk Wednesday: The importance of study.

It's so crucial to study and learn new techniques, skills and processes in order to grow as an artist. If you don't take the time to learn more about the areas of art making that you struggle with, then you will continue to have difficulties in that area.

WOYWW  - What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday? This is what's on mine.

This week I'm looking at John Howard Sanden's 29 Steps for portrait painting. It's a great book that goes through step by step on how to creating a portrait in Oils. If you are not familiar with Sanden's work, he does 'alla prima' portraits that are very painterly and realistic, he paints like I aspire to paint like. I'm very excited to have my hands on one of his books and to be learning a little from a true master.

  1. Well you paint like I aspire to paint...so there! I am so impressed that you continue to learn, no wonder being an artist is such an encompassing and absorbing thing.

  3. Tracey, you already paint way past my aspirations and now you have a great book to make you even better. So jealous :)
In truth, I really need to learn skills instead of muddling through.
Still really love that green bunny.

  7. Wow. What you say in the opening of your post is just what I need to hear! I'm taking an e-course on sketching and art journaling and am struggling with the sketching. I'm more of a doodler. Practice, practice, practice is in my future!

I love the painting of the girl holding the rooster - very sweet!

    Happy WOYWW

  14. At first I was having a terrible time leaving comments on blogs last night. They didn't want to post. NOW I get "service unavailable when I try to leave a comment. It's really frustrating. I see others having trouble with MY link, too.

I am sure that book will come in handy, although you are already a fabulous artist. Happy WOYWW from # 7.
