MPC: Talk about a CHALLENGE!

Have you ever tried to paint an image with limited brush strokes? If you have, you will know what I mean when I say this is a real challenge! Even for someone who is used to (or thought she was) painting minimally, it is quite hard to condense the number of marks you can make to the fundamental ones, and to have a limit of 12, is even more difficult. Challenges like these really get you thinking about the design principles and the essence of image making!

The Monthly Painting Challenge (MPC) topic this month was '12 brush strokes'. Even though I set this as the challenge, I didn't realise how difficult a task it would be until I started planing my image.

I set the goal of not only depicting a face in 12 brush strokes but getting a like of a girl called Maia too. I know, I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to pushing myself artistically. Though I'm happy with what I've learnt during the making of this image, I'm not happy with image as it is, and will work more on this painting.  The foundation is good, it just needs more detail and definition.

Head on over to the MPC Facebook page to see what everyone else has come up with for this challenge and if you'd like to join in the next challenge, just let me know and I can give you the topic and the group rules.

Happy Creating!

  1. Goodness I have just tried to draw a face with 12 strokes of a pen and I don't know how you have managed to make your face so excellent - a challenge indeed and done really well Tracey.

    1. Thanks Von, it was quite the challenge. A great exercise to do though, well worth having a go at it.
