This months MPC {
Monthly Painters Challenge} has lived up to the it's name once again, it was such a CHALLENGE! A good challenge though, it's often beneficial to work outsides ones comfort zone and depict a subject chosen by someone else, so many not yet thought of options and directions are discovered.
This month's topic was decided by one of our newer members - Alli- and I must admit, I had to Google the word's meaning, because Gallimaufry was not currently in my vocabulary.
For those of you that are scratching your heads to fiqure out what it means, like I was, here's the definition: 1. a hodgepodge; jumble; confused medley. 2. a ragout or hash.

I've always been interested in collecting {some might call it hoarding} random, unusual objects, so I decided to work with the following synonyms of Gallimaufry: assortment, clutter, collage, miscellany, jumble, mishmash, mixed bag and montage.

I started the below painting, but only got to the sketching stage, as I realised it would not be completed in time for the reveal, and I would have to go with a quicker way of image making, so I decided to play around with some still life style photographic pieces instead, which was a lot of fun.
Above is the image I submitted over on the groups
Facebook page, pop on over and check out what the others artists created and how they interpreted the subject.
I love them all, but the tomato one is my favourite.... I think I picked a good month to have a break!!!! That topic was tough but you handled it beautifully...xx
ReplyDeleteI love your still lifes, they are beautiful with just a touch of surrealism.....
ReplyDeleteWeird word, but a great idea for a painting theme. I think I like the photo with the rubber ducky the best. I hope you are still planning to finish the painting though!
