Yesterday was the Monthly Painters Challenge (MPC) reveal, I scrambled until the last minute to get 'Olivia and Her Octopus' finished in time and it's now sitting in the studio on my mini easel.
I also have a very messy looking palette on the desk at the moment, it has been used for a few different paintings and has so many layers of dried paint on it.
I've decided to clean it and share with you the 'after' photo. Cleaning my palette involves tearing off the top sheet from my disposable palette and then transferring any fresh paint over to a new sheet. It's as simple as that. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.
In the above photo you will also notice there are tubes and a bottle sitting on the desk behind the palette. {I didn't put them back in the box after I used them yesterday!} The red tube of paint is an Alizarin Crimson, I'm using it a lot lately in my paintings, it's a beautiful transparent cool red, it stains similar to beetroot! You can see it below in the progress photo on Olivia's cheek and her arm. Isn't it just a wonderful colour?
I use Liquin and Smooth Gel as my mediums for oil painting. They both speed up the drying time, so I can go back into the painting after 24hrs or so. The Liquin is a runny medium that is great for glazing and applying thin layers of colour, where as the Smooth Gel is a thicker medium that is fantastic for buttery paint application.
And my brushes need a clean too. Just look at them!
I'm off to clean them using these two fabulous products.
Marvy Tracey! I use Liquin too..great stuff! xo
ReplyDeleteA fabulous post and such lovely shots of your desk, texture and colours. What a truly lovely artwork - so vivid and original - love the red! Thanks for sharing today, Sarah at 2.
ReplyDeleteLiquin (original) is the bomb! I use it more than the Gel.
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting - would love to have a play with all those colours on the palette - Hazel WOYWW #43 x
ReplyDeleteYes, that's a great red! Haven't heard of the Liquin though. That's one brave girl cuddling that octopus!

Love your painting and that palette looks familiar to me. My oil ones are covered in thick layers of old paint, but mine are wood and I have to scrape them, takes ages to do. I will keep an eye out for the peel off ones.
ReplyDeleteThe peel off palettes are great, you can get them from art stores or even the Dollar Shop. I got the one I'm using at the moment from a dollar shop, it works great.
ReplyDeleteThanks you all for stopping by and leaving beautiful comments, it's wonderful to log on and read your praise and admiration. Happy WOYWW all,
