Studio Update

I've been learning all about warm and cool, transparent and opaque colours and how they recede or advance in a picture, interesting stuff! I'll share some YouTube videos and website articles with you in my next Link Love post.

Since my last Studio Update post, I've done a little bit more on the fruit head painting that I sketched up, adding another layer of paint to the face, ribbon and background. Here's how it is coming along:

I've been playing around with ideas for the hat. I initially thought a granny smith apple would be the way to go, however after painting a study of one (below), I decided against it. It's a bit to harsh and the bright green does not sit well within the painting. I have photographed a passion fruit and custard apple as other options to try.

I've also got some very exciting news to share with you all, I got into the Lethbridge 1000! It's a small art works prize in Brisbane. I entered last year with 'My Little Dear' and sadly did not make the cut. I'm so excited about getting in this year with 'Kirra with a Green Hat' (below). I will do up a post about the prize with more details in my next Exhibitions post, stay tuned.

Wishing Everyone a fantastic week!

  1. HI Tracey, I am loving the face on the latest, the eyes are just beautiful already, and I can't wait to go and see Kirra hanging as a finalist!!!

  2. Thanks Tracey! The eyes and the whole painting I'm working on has a lot of work to go, I'm really happy with how it's coming along though. I'd love to know what you think about my Kirra painting when you see it in the flesh.

How's the Challenge painting coming along? I did not get any done this weekend :( but I'm confident it will be finished in time for the big reveal.

    Catch up soon?
