Studio Update: A New Painting.

The Monthly Painters Challenge {MPC} reveal was yesterday, and it took me most of the day to get my painting to the stage where I was happy to call it finished and to submit it over on the Facebook Page. I know I was cutting it close submitting it in the late afternoon, but the extra hours I put in made all the difference.

The Red Dress | Oil on Board |15 x 22cm | Available

I had the idea for my MPC piece very early on {the topic was 'Fabric Design'} but when I actually started painting it, I struggled all the way to the end, I honestly thought I would not make the deadline because on the morning of the reveal day I had one muddy mess to deal with and somehow I had to bring light, color, form and pattern too it.  Thankfully the composition had finally been worked out after days of indecisiveness and it was just a matter of channeling Klimt for the finally touches. Can I just say how much I admire and respect Klimt as an artist, even more so after this painting. He is a master of colour and pattern!

As I mention on Wednesday, my Nomad Brush came earlier than expected and I had a play around with it.  I used it at the end of the ipad concept sketch I did for the above painting. Below is the time lapsed video of the sketch, it's a pretty rough image, but it did help me work out a few things.

I'm joining {and hosting} the 5th Palette & Paint party this week. Below is my submission, I took the  photo of my palette yesterday, but ran out of time to add it to the blog, so here it is:

The layers of paint are really building up now! It's starting to look interesting and become an artwork in itself.  What does your palette look like? Do you use Oil, Acrylic, Watercolour, pencils or a mixture? The party is still open, if you want to play along. There will be a showcase of all entries on Thursday {Australian time} on the Blog, Flickr, Facebook and Pinterest.

  4. Thanks for the kind words ladies.

@Sue, I did the ipad sketch on the bus, it's great to be able to 'paint' or concept anywhere, technology hey? It's not the same experience as painting with oils, but if I can't get into the studio it's a great alternative to figure out ideas and develop skills. You are most welcome to apply to join the MPC group in the new year when things slow down.

@Lisa, you are the second person to say that to me tonight (that Klimt would be proud).

  7. Wow, you did a great job bringing the light into this. I love seeing examples of artists keeping at a piece they aren't happy with and turning it into one they are pleased with. This is great, a fitting homage to Klimt.

  8. Tracy, Your portrait in the style of Klint's really wonderful. I saw the real works of Klint on a visit to Venise in Italy and it was upsetting beauty.

As for mediums, I use watercolor the most. These days I haven't had the time to paint as I have been busy with my Christmas cards sale. Have a Merry Christmas my dear!

  26. Wow! That is all I can say! I love the colors and the whole composition. I have the pen and pad and have no idea how to use it. My son bought it for me. But I would have to do it at home anyway, only a regular PC here, no laptop or IPhone! Your work is truly stunning, I love it!
