What's been happening in my art world recently.

I've been busy with all sorts of arty things over the last couple of weeks.

This year I set myself the goal to enter art prizes and competitions, so that's exactly what I have been doing.  The Metro Art Award 2010  entry is due this coming Monday.  I was planning to enter Leda and the Swan, however I didn't want to rush completing it so I ended up submitting My Little Dear instead. There was a mix up with my photos, I sent in 5 different images when the Gallery wanted 5 identical images, fortunately I sent my application in early and there was enough time to rectify this misunderstanding. I'm glad it is all sorted out now.  On a slightly different note, If you are interested in art opportunities and prizes that are coming up, don't forget to check my discussion topic on Facebook.

I have also been mounting artwork and preparing it for hanging.  My Venus sold through my Facebook Fan Page and Michael the buyer choose to have the work ready for hanging.  He was quite impressed with the way I backed the piece and said the painting was "perfectly mounted!".  This got me to thinking that my followers may be interested to see how I mount my artwork, so I will be posting a step by step on how I back my works on board in the next few weeks, so stayed tuned for that.

My Venus mounted and ready to hang.

Something new for me is doing prints of my work, I am not making them available for sale, but giving them away as a way of showing my appreciation to those who support me and my art.  Last week's Facebook Fan of the Week received a print of Octopus on my Head and I'm running a giveaway for Bird with a Pearl Earring on my blog - leave a comment on the giveaway post before Monday May 31st, 12pm EST for your chance to win.

Also, I recently got out some older artworks that I had put aside for another time as I was not happy with them.  It has been fun going back into this work with new eyes and different thoughts.  I will post images once they are finished.
